“Tough as Nails” is a reality show on CBS that examines contestants’ mental and physical endurance as they face challenges in real-life job locations. Every week, contestants are removed based on their performances. The person who is eliminated will continue to participate in this show. This isn’t often the case with reality TV shows.
It was, therefore, odd to me that Michael “Eyebrows” Guerriero (AKA Mikey) was not shown in the second episode of season 2, particularly since he wasn’t ever eliminated from any job. The bricklayer, who hails from New York City, made some noise during his brief appearance on the show ‘Tough as Nails. What Happened to Michael “Eyebrows” Guerriero?
Although it’s not common for a cast member to leave the show, Tara Alverson and Mikey left it after just two episodes. But, the interest surrounding Mikey’s departure grew as there was no explanation for why he quit the show. Tara’s departure was clearly discussed throughout the show, and she was told that she would not be able to compete due to a hand injury. On the other hand, the host and co-creator Phil Keoghan said that Mikey would not continue because the presenter “had to go home.”

Additionally, during an episode of a team-based challenge, 2 Mikey was able to cause Patrick “Freight Train” Hargan to slip into the water. The incident created a bit of tension between the two contestants. However, Mikey said it was not intentional. Then, Keoghan spoke in public and confirmed the claim. This incident did not solve the mystery of why Mikey had been “disqualified.”
Why Did Michael “Eyebrows” Guerriero Leave Tough as Nails?
In Keoghan’s interview with Rob Does on the podcast on March 20, 2021, Keoghan revealed the reasons for Mikey’s denial. He explained, “It’s very important for us to create a safe atmosphere on set. This is a top priority for us. We have zero-tolerance rules. In the background, he did not follow one of them and is no longer a contestant on the show anymore. That’s it.”
Keoghan emphasized that there aren’t any re-runs when a person crosses the line. None of it came as a shock for the contestants as they were aware of the rules. Because the proceedings were extremely fast, the decision was made that viewers should be informed of Mikey’s departure but not get into the incident at this point.

While Keoghan was adamant regarding the events, that didn’t keep the fans from thinking about the reasons behind Mikey’s departure. While some speculated on family problems, and others speculated that his loss in the Individual Challenge might have left him unfit to compete in the competition. A lot of viewers expressed their displeasure over Patrick’s loss.
As Keoghan has revealed, Mikey broke some rules on camera, resulting in his being banned from the competitions. The presenter, however, was able to spare Mikey from some criticism by not divulging the details of the incident. It is unlikely that Mikey will ever be allowed to return to the show. “Tough as Nails’ has been renewed for seasons 3 and 4, likely introducing a new set of contestants.
