Cari Farver was a single mother who was looking for a casual relationship to fit her busy schedule. Things seemed to fall into place when she met Dave Kroupa (an unattached bachelor with two children of his own); after only two weeks of dating, Cari suddenly vanished suddenly on November 13, 2012. This was when the madness really began. Cari Farver: What happened? A special investigation.
Cari Farver: What happened?
Dave Kroupa worked in an auto shop in Omaha, Nebr, in 2012. Cari Farver dropped her Ford Explorer off for maintenance. The connection was instant. Dave was at the time separated from Amy Flora, his ex-girlfriend, and he had two children with her. Another woman named Liz Golyar was also casually with him. He met Liz via a dating site. Kroupa had two children, and Golyar was also aware of his desire to see other people.
Amy Long, Cari Farver’s friend, told ABC News that she “couldn’t help but notice Cari” because Cari always “lit up the room.” Kroupa was attracted to Farver because of this. Farver told Kroupa on their first date that she wasn’t looking for anything serious. Farver met Golyar later that night as she was leaving Kroupa’s apartment. The two of them barely spoke to each other in the darkness, but the moment would prove more dangerous than they could have imagined.
Farver was visiting Kroupa in November 2012 while she was completing a work project. He lived near her office. Kroupa said goodbye to Farver the morning she disappeared. But he never saw her again. He would still hear from her over the next four years.

Farver sent Kroupa a text a few hours after leaving his apartment. He wanted her to move in officially with him, something neither of the two had stated they wanted. The texts escalated after Farver politely declined to move in with him.
Farver’s mother, Nancy Raney, and Max, her 15-year-old son, would be grateful for the Bizarre text. She claimed that she had found work in Kansas and would be making plans to take Max. She never showed up. Farver’s mother realized something was wrong when Farver missed Max’s birthday, holiday, and funeral.
Kroupa started seeing Golyar around this time. He was also the one who received rage-filled text messages. Kroupa received a text describing his exact actions every now and again.
Authorities intervened in the spring of 2015. The texts were traced back to Jim Doty and Ryan Avis of the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Council Bluffs, Iowa. They didn’t suspect Farver was dead.
Cari Farver was killed by whom?
Nancy Raney told police her daughter had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder during her 20s. However, they found no evidence that this was connected to her disappearance after investigating the case. ABC News reported that Golyar became an object of interest quickly after realizing she was not involved in Farver’s life.
Soon, the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office brought in a digital forensics administrator to assist. Authorities were able to track Kroupa’s and Golyar’s “content from their phones in 2013” for the initial group. They found a digital trail too crazy to believe that led them back to Golyar, who, according to the digital forensics investigator, spent 40-50 hours per week impersonating Farver.

Golyar was then fed a story by the detectives. It claimed that Amy Flora, Kroupa’s ex-wife and mother of his children, was involved in Farver’s disappearance. Golyar would then come to the police station in the pretense of answering questions that might help Flora. She would be told everything she needed to know by the police to make an arrest.
Soon after these interviews, Golyar returned to the station with the emails she had received from Flora. She provided all the information that the cops required. The grisly details of Farver’s murder were detailed in those emails. But it wasn’t Flora that sent the emails. It was Golyar. Police arrested her on December 22, 2016, and charged her with murder.
Is Cari Farver still with her son?
Max Farver’s LinkedIn Page states that he is a software engineer for Fetch Rewards. His mother was a programmer, and it looks like he may have been following in her footsteps. He received a degree from Iowa State University in software engineering/data sciences. He is also married.
Max and Sara met in kindergarten. They dated in high school. Nearly two years after their graduation, he proposed to her in January 2018. Their wedding registry says they had to move their wedding back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the site has photos of what appears to be a wedding!
