After spending an evening at a party with his friends, Ryan Shtuka, a young man, vanished in thin air on February 2018. Many obstacles were encountered in the ensuing search, including few leads and weather conditions that changed over time. Paramount+’s “Never Seen Again” features Ryan’s disappearance as one of their stories. The viewers also learn about Ryan’s parents and their efforts to find their son. Here’s what we know about Ryan’s disappearance.
Ryan Shtuka: What happened?
Ryan Shtuka was the son of Heather and Scott Shtuka. He was born in Beaumont, Alberta, Canada. His loved ones describe him as a funny, intelligent, sarcastic and funny young man who was always available. Ryan was a Canadian citizen who lived in British Columbia at the time. He worked in a Sun Peaks ski resort.

Ryan went to visit a friend on Burfield Drive in Sun Peaks just hours after he was last seen. Ryan, then 20 years old, left the party around 2 am on February 17, 2018. Ryan left the party at 2 am on February 17, 2018, and he did not show up at work the next day. There was no activity on Ryan’s cell phone or social media. His family became concerned and quickly reported him missing. They then began an extensive search to find him.
Is Ryan Shtuka Dead or Alive?
According to the family, they were not sure about Ryan’s mental state at the time or how drunk he was at the time he left the party. Authorities found no evidence that Ryan had left Sun Peaks. They asked residents to search their sheds and garages for signs of Ryan. Ryan was not found, and loved ones were left with more questions than answers.
Ryan’s family kept looking for Ryan in the area as days turned into weeks. Heather stated in March 2018 that all searches, except for a few days, in the beginning, were coordinated by Scott or her. She added: “None of us are search and rescue experts. Never even knew how this stuff works.” It was a steep learning curve for us all, and we discovered what we could have done better each day. Even though we have touched every inch of the resort, how much do we know about it? What were our goals at the time?
It was also difficult to find Ryan due to the terrain and limited information. His search for his location continued up until the winter snow of that year. Ryan’s loved ones were honored by Sun Peaks in February 2019. Heather stated that they didn’t go up as grieving parents because we aren’t. This ambiguous loss is what we have to deal with. We are in this netherworld and don’t know when it will change.

The authorities maintained that the investigation was ongoing throughout the years. However, there were no leads and no developments in this case. Ryan’s family continues to search for him, despite the fact that there are few leads and no developments. They have maintained that they will not slow down. In June 2021, authorities returned to Sun Peaks for a second search. Heather and Scott maintained regular contact with police, and the mother claimed that it was Ryan’s first organized search since 2018.
Heather said, “Looking for his jacket, hat, or shoe or phone keys or even his car keys would be very helpful.” These things will probably last longer and be easier to spot as people go through them. So I ask people to be aware, watchful, and vigilant.” The family continues to travel to Sun Peaks each year and has participated in a candlelight ceremony and a ski race at the annual memorial in 2022. Heather stated that they would continue the search for Ryan in April 2022.
