Directed, written, and edited by John Erick Dowdle (‘Full Moon Rising’), ‘The Poughkeepsie Tapes The Poughkeepsie Tapes’ tells the tale of the serial killer who roams the streets of the famous city of New York, the U.S. State in New York. The victims tend to be young women, but he’s also killed some of their male accomplices. The film is primarily composed of over 800 tapes found in the home of his victim. Is The Poughkeepsie Tapes Based on a True Story?
A real story does not inspire the Poughkeepsie Tapes’. The film was made using both mockumentary and found-footage styles of filmmaking. After the film’s release, a Syracuse local news source said that Edward Carver in ‘The Poughkeepsie Tapes is inspired by a man called Kendall Francois, who murdered eight to ten sex workers at Poughkeepsie between 1996 and 1998. The main difference between them is that Francois did not keep a thorough video of his crimes. In the same piece, the publication refers to an article by the Circle in which Dowdle was reported to have admitted that he did not know of Francois before filming the movie.
