Deepwater Horizon Story
Deepwater Horizon tells the story of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, frequently known as”the” Gulf of Mexico oil spill. It was the Deepwater Horizon rig. It was run by the offshore oil drilling firm Transocean. It was situated inside the Macondo oil prospect located in the Mississippi Canyon. The morning of the event, which occurred on April 20, 2010, a blast of natural gas blasted through the concrete core due to the concrete core being weak enough to withstand the pressure, which could cause damage to it. The gas then moved upwards and ignited, which resulted in the death and injury of 17 and 11 workers, respectively. The entire rig was flipped and then sank on April 22, 2010. The result was an oil leak of up to 60,000 barrels per day.

They devised LMRP caps that could hold around 15000 barrels of oil per day, and later, the cap was added to an additional collection system that raised the rate of oil collection to 25,000 barrels of oil daily. In July 2010, the LMRP caps were removed completely to put in a permanent seal that slowed the leak quite a bit.
The oil that managed to leak before the seal was put in place created a slick that covered an area of 149,00 square kilometers. While measures were taken to minimize damages and the pollution that this leak brought, it still affected 1770 kilometers of shoreline.
The oil leak has put all of the states in a precarious situation, and the report from the Joint Investigation Team of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) and the U.S. Coast Guard declared BP to be the primary culprit in the incident because they failed to ensure quality installations, and their workers did not take notice of warning signs that if taken earlier could have prevented the catastrophe.
