Cathy Mabbutt, the Latah County coroner, told the media that the deaths of all four were homicides and not a murder-suicide case. Mrs. Mabbutt said her office plans to conduct autopsies Wednesday. She stated that she would not be able to divulge any details about how the victims were killed without permission to do so from the police.
The University of Idaho confirmed that the victims were all students. They also canceled class on Monday.

Egann Willis, who was a teacher from Chapin’s. Chapin’s Mount Vernon High School in Washington State, said Mr. Chapin had been a outstanding basketball player on the school team known as the Bulldogs and was graduating in 2021, before going to the University of Idaho.
“Ethan had the sort of boy who could light up the room and always have smiles on his faces,” Mr. Willis stated. “None of us are able to accept that this really been the case for such an innocent child.”
“Ethan was a truly unique person,” said Jacob Perez, who first met his Mr. Chapin when they were kids playing together in sports and then went to high school together. “I do not think I’ve any single photo or video of him that doesn’t show him singing a song from ear to ear or doing something funny.”
