Let me tell you, I actually loved watching the premiere of Cinderella available on Amazon Prime, and I don’t care about what others say. I thought it was awe-inspiring. It had some enjoyable songs and took away from the world’s reality, so do what you want.
I really enjoyed the movie and all the modern songs it featured in addition. But, it has made me think of many other Cinderella films. Do you know that one of the first adaptations of the classic fairytale dates to the early 1900s?
There’s quite a bit of Cinderella. However, I’m here to offer you options to return to another version of the girl with the glass slipper, some fairly accurate adaptations, and some contemporary ones. No matter what you like, here are some of the best streaming choices, ranging from the most popular films on Amazon Prime to some on Disney+ and beyond.
Cinderella (2015)
In this live-action adaptation by Disney, Cinderella stars Lily James as the main character who is locked at home until she has the opportunity to be a part of an event and escape from the perpetual slavery to her stepmother and step-sisters.

A Cinderella Story (2004)
Moving into the present for a while and looking at the classic A Cinderella Story. With Hilary Duff, this version of the story centers around two pen pals on the internet who decide to meet face-to-face for the very first time during their school’s Halloween celebration.
There’s something incredibly delightful about this movie. The film doesn’t feature any giddy magic or the other elements associated with a film similar to Cinderella; however, it’s enjoyable to watch as it’s more authentic. It’s about two teenagers in love with one another but cannot seem to get their attention. Yet the movie’s ending brings them closer, and everyone has their happily ever contemporary setting. The romance between Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray is a must-see.
Ella Enchanted (2004)
The Disney movie Ella Enchanted is the story of a teenage girl named Ella who was cursed as a child with the “gift” of obedience. This meant that she was expected to comply with every instruction she received regardless of the situation. After a while, she must, with the help of her family and friends, discover the best way to rid herself of the power that has been controlling her life.
The thing I like the best about Ella Enchanted is that it is an authentic film about attempting to be you without imposing its message onto your ear. Ella is an amazing woman with lots of determination, and she discovers ways to get her freedom instead of depending on others for help. Anne Hathaway is always amazing in her first major roles, and that last scene in “Don’t Go breaking my heart” is a joy to watch every time.
Cinderella (1997)
It is a version of Cinderella that is actually inspired by The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, telling the same story of Cinderella being under the control of her wicked stepmother and step-sisters until one night her Fairy Godmother turns and gives her the most memorable ever night. This transforms her forever.
What can make the current variation of Cinderella so great are the actors? It’s true the cast here is better than the other casts in this section. Although I am awestruck by the talent of everyone, There’s so much to see in this cast that it’s difficult to squeeze them all into a single section. Brandy plays Cinderella, Whoopi Goldberg is the Queen, and even her music legend, Whitney Houston, is the Fairy Godmother. The cast is amazing with a great soundtrack and makes for an excellent adaptation of the classic musical worth watching.
Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998)
Ever After: A Cinderella Story removes the magic of the story and sets it in the Renaissance era of France, in which Cinderella attempts to figure out how to escape her existence at her home.

On first look, you’d think this would be the least adapted of the others in this list. It’s not magic. It’s not set in a contemporary setting, but the Renaissance isn’t looking to be much going for it. This isn’t the case, however, since this is one of the most effective adaptations of the time. Drew Barrymore is perfect as Cinderella, and instead of being dependent on magic, she comes up with a method for her to get herself back. I’m not willing to reveal too much, but I really enjoyed this film, more than I expected to.
Into The Woods (2014)
In this musical adaptation, Into the Woods follows many fairytales from the past that arrive at their happy endings. However, it asks a question: What happens next after the happily-ever-after? What happens when the happy endings don’t exist?
While it’s not a completely Cinderella story, the Cinderella element is crucial for Into the Woods. Anna Kendrick’s sing-song voice was among the best choices for a character like Cinderella. There are many variations to the character, like her Prince Charming, which is performed in the role of Chris Pine, and honestly, it’s refreshing to see a change from the usual tale.
The Princess Diaries (2001)
The film adaption of the story with the same title, The Princess Diaries, follows Mia Thermopolis, a shy teenager from America who discovers that she is the successor to the throne of a European kingdom, which completely alters her life.
A modernized version of Cinderella, The Princess Diaries isn’t your typical Cinderella story. There’s nothing magical, no Prince Charming or even the blue dress of a princess or masked people – but the thing that is what makes The Princess Diaries such an excellent film is The Princess Diaries cast and the characters, particularly Anne Hathaway’s character Mia. Mia is a random girl with no formal training in royals and is thrust into a new world with no idea how to proceed, something that Cinderella mentioned, particularly in its direct-to-video sequels. It’s a fantastic modern version that is worthy of all the praise it’s received.
Additionally, it features Julie Andrews, and she’s always a winner. It’s amazing to think that it’s been 20 years since the song first came out – please keep me from growing up.
Cinderella (1950)
This timeless Disney animated feature, Cinderella, tells the classic tale of a girl who lives in the basement of her stepmother’s home. She gets the chance of a lifetime when her fairy godmother arrives to aid her in overcoming the magic of her hand by bringing the princess to an event where she will meet Prince Charming.
You’re probably in love with it. She’s actually one of the characters from Disney. Most people have seen the classic animated film of the famous character. If you’ve seen a Disney princess movie that comes following Cinderella will be a credit to her. Although Snow White might have been the first Disney princess, Cinderella became mega-popular, and today, we have an entire collection of fantastic Disney animated films featuring amazing characters. It’s a real icon, and for a good reason.
Cinderfella (1960)
In this hilarious version, Cinderfella recounts the life of Fella, who is a young boy whose father passed away, and he is left to live with his wicked stepmother and their two children. Then, he receives the assistance of his fairy godfather, who allows him to go to the ball, meet Princess Charming, and finally find his own happily-ever-after.
Cinderfella asks, “what if almost everyone was sex-shopped during Cinderella?” And that’s exactly the scenario that takes place. There’s nothing groundbreaking in this classic film from the early 1960s. It’s the same story you’ve become familiar with and love. It’s not without its originality. In addition, it’s genuinely humorous, and you’ll feel like you’re in the movie.

Another Cinderella Story (2008)
A sequel, A Cinderella Story, Another Cinderella Story, follows Mary Santiago, a high school student who hopes to be a dancer. She encounters Joey Parker, a famous pop and famous celebrity who is returning to the school in his last year of high school. They begin a relationship that alters their lives for the better.
What I love the most about this movie is that they do not waste time trying to figure out love with the tale. Selena Gomez and Drew Seeley’s characters are easy to get together; however, what is entertaining is the people in their midst who are eager to assist them or even sabotage them or any other thing in between. Jane Lynch is hysterical as the villainous stepmother, and the other actors also rock it. Dance sequences in the film are hilarious as well. We’re waiting for the 2021 films to be released as we’d like to see all the movies which were delayed to the point of being pushed back, like Dune or Eternals. However, maybe for a moment, we can all benefit from some of the realms of fantasy in our lives, and occasionally, Cinderella helps with that. There are at least choices other than the latest Amazon musical.
