The Tribe (2018)

Originally released under La Tribu, “The Tribe” is the captivating story of Fidel. He was caught with his secretary having sex while in office. Fidel was seen looking for Virginia, his mother, a year later. Virginia had given Fidel for adoption because of his financial difficulties. He finds her at a hotel, where she is a janitor.

Fidel decides to wait in the pub instead of meeting her at the hotel. There is a brawl, and Fidel leaves in a hurry without the chance to meet. Virginia learns about Fidel’s amnesia, and how he can forget where he is from or who he is. Virginia learns later that Fidel is a pro at street dancing and she shapes her relationship with him accordingly. The Tribe is an entertaining and simple watch that will entertain those who feel bored during the afternoon.

Battle (2018)

“Battle”, one of the most recent dance movies, is the story of Amalie, a hardworking dancer whose father has been living in poverty and forcing her to give up on her dreams. He is a street dancer and she meets Michael. She is caught between her new life with Michael and financial difficulties. She must work hard to find her way out. My humble opinion is that ‘Battle’ is one of those masterful gems that deserves applause and is well worth your time.

White Christmas (1954).

This 1954 musical film centers on Bob Wallace and Phil Davis. They are two WWII veterans who have started a song-dance troupe that travels around the country performing for locals. Two sisters, Betty and Judy, also form a dance group and perform in nightclubs, meeting the two friends. These four performers are brought by circumstance to Pine Tree’s Columbia Inn, where they will perform for guests.

They are shocked to discover that the inn is operated and owned by General Waverly, their army commanding officer. General Waverly is worried that his inn isn’t performing as well as it should. It is time to get some money in order to run the place. Bob and Phil decide that they will perform well enough to ensure General Waverly makes a decent income. This movie is about Christmas joy, love, and cheer, where everyone finds something to be grateful for. It’s one of the most popular dance movies on Netflix.

Feel the Beat (2020).

Shawn Ku and Michael Armbruster wrote ‘Feel The Beat,’ a comedy-drama about family dancing that was produced by Susan Cartsonis. April Dibrina is the subject of Elissa Down’s directorial. She is a talented dancer who loses her chance at Broadway after a series of unfortunate events.

Even worse, her apartment is evicted and she is forced to return home to Wisconsin. One day she is shopping and accidentally bumps into Miss Barb, a New Hope dance teacher who is eager to welcome her to the studio. April is surprised when Miss Barb offers to train her class of dancers for the competition. April is initially reluctant to accept the opportunity, but she soon realizes it could be beneficial for her career.

ABCD (Any Body Can Dance) (2013)

Jehangir Khan, the manager of a dance company, has a falling out with Vishnu the choreographer. He decides to return to Chennai to reclaim his roots. He sees a group of young men using parkour to evade police and feels they have great potential and decides to discipline them for a dance competition.

The group of young men eventually split into rival factions, which could even lead to their deaths. The rest of the story of ‘ABCD” is about the coming together of different factions, auditioning, participating, and winning the competition. It was a Bollywood film that was different from other films and featured dance moves comparable to Hollywood. The movie was well received.

Step Sisters (2018)

Megalyn Echikunwoke stars with Lyndon Smith and Eden Sher. Marque Richardson directs ‘Step Sisters,’ a comedy dance movie. Jamilah is a young woman who manages the college’s highly-regarded step team while also handling the duties of president of a black chapter and working towards her goal of going to Harvard Law School.

Jamilah is responsible for resolving problems when a group sorority girl tarnishes the school’s image. She must also train the girls in step dancing and prepare them for competition.

Stefan Westerwelle directs Into the Beat, or ‘Dein Herz tanzt.’ This is a German teen romance film. Yalany Marschner and Alexandra Pfeifer star in the film about Katya, a teenage ballerina with incredible dancing skills. She has a good chance of being awarded a scholarship as she is about to audition for the New York Ballet Academy.

Katya is fortunate to meet a group of street dancers just days before her big audition. They open up a new world for her that she didn’t know existed. This is the beginning of Katya’s self-discovery, which leads to a life-changing question for the teen ballerina.

Laura Terruso directed ‘Work It’, a comedy-dance film featuring talented actors such as Sabrina Carpenter and Keiynan Lonsdale. Quinn Ackerman is a high schooler who dreams to become a professional dancer and help her father.

She is only 18 years old and achieves near perfection. She plans to compete in a competition. Quinn is surrounded by misfits and has slim chances of winning, but she refuses to let doubts stop her from making the right choices. She vows to fulfill her seemingly impossible goals.
