Investigation Discovery’s ‘Homicide: Charlotte ABC’s of Murder The show chronicles the murder of Middle school instructor Anthony Davis in his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, in February 2010. How Did Anthony Davis Die?
Born on June 2, 1971. Anthony Tyrone Davis did not have a typical childhood. As a child, living together with family members living in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and witnessed her mother Vivian being shot dead by her sour ex-partner in 1984, according to the reports. The grandmother of the family was also wounded during the incident. But, Davis helped raise three brothers while continuing to pursue his studies. Davis pursued his studies at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and later joined Sedgefield Middle School as a teacher.

Davis is also an active participant in an organization called Right Moves for Youth, which encourages and motivates teenagers to remain in school and not leave. He was a veteran teacher of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district, occupying various teaching positions since December 1998. Davis was hired by the Randolph I.B. Middle School as a CTE (career as well as technical instruction) business teacher around 2004. Students reminisced about how much he loved them and was always encouraging and inspiring students, and served the role of a mentor figure to the most. He also was a proponent of non-violence.
When Davis did not report to school on February 8 and February 9, 2010, one of his relatives contacted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. The police showed up at the doorway at his Lady Liberty Lane home in southwest Charlotte at about 9:00 am on February 9. They entered the home along with the family. They were shocked to see the body of a 38-year-old on the bed, surrounded by bedsheets and a comforter. A gun killed the victim. The investigators also discovered that his vehicle, a car, a 2007 Ford Edge was not present on the driveway.
Who Killed Anthony Davis?
The police were not required to spend long searching because Anthony Davis’ automobile was found on Back Creek Church Road the following day and was hauled into the Police Headquarters for investigation. The principal suspect in the case was one of Davis’s students whom he mentored who was a student of Davis’ mentor – Ashanti Braylan Bess. They had a relationship when Bess was a student at Sedgefield Middle School while Davis was a teacher at the school. They were both engaged in their participation in the Right Moves for a Youth program that they both attended, but Bess was later removed.
The two were able to maintain the same bond. Davis even permitted Bess to stay at Davis’ house a few times. Bess even provided Davis his address as his official address between 2005 until the year 2009. After searching Bess’s home, detectives claimed to have found some items stolen from Davis in his apartment. Bess, 22-year-old, was arrested at the end of February, accepting responsibility for the murder of his mentor. He was not convicted of any prior crimes. Davis’ family said Davis was a mentor for Bess for six years.
Where is Ashanti Bess Today?
Ashanti Bess was arrested for murder on February 17, 2010, and was detained at the Mecklenburg County Jail without bond. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and an armed burglary on the 5, 2011, in exchange for a term of imprisonment that was a minimum of 21 years and up to 27 years. In his trial, he claimed that the murder occurred at Davis’s home during the time of the murder and that the defendant had allegedly texted him to request an intimate massage. He then offered to pay Bess money to go on an intimate sex session with him.

However, the police discovered no evidence for these supposed texts. According to court records, the accused must serve 25 years and 10 months in jail. The 34-year-old is currently detained in one of the cells at Scotland Correctional Institution located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The expected release date will be September 14, 2031, according to the records of his inmates.
